THE MUSICAL ARTS
Band
Our band is conducted through the ADW Music Program and directed by Ms. Katherine Suuberg. The band performs twice a year for the community during the winter and spring concerts. Students also compete locally in festivals. The music program seeks to play an equal part with the rest of the educational process in the development of the students so that they will grow into mature, Christian adults. While it is not a vocationally oriented program, many of our students have gone on to become professional musicians and music educators.
Our primary position is not that of a "feeder" program for the secondary schools. Rather, we try to impart to as many children as possible the unique experience which can be attained only through an instrumental program; to teach the techniques of performance and the fundamentals of music and music making. The program strives to serve the needs of the schools, the parents, and the students.

HANDBELLS
Handbells are offered to Middle School students and are unique to Cardinal Hickey Academy. The students perform throughout the year and at the winter and spring concerts. This educational opportunity teaches students how to read and count music, while utilizing coordination skills. Our handbell choir practices weekly and requires an incredible amount of concentration.
DRAMA CLUB
Our yearly musical play production is performed by our 5th-8th grade students. Plays are directed by Mrs. Dawn Nazzaro. Some past musical performances include Frozen, Jr., The Lion King Jr., Beauty and the Beast Jr., The Little Mermaid Jr., Bugsy Malone Jr., and Annie Jr. In these productions, students learned all about the theater and what important steps cast members, stage crew members and directors need to go through to produce a successful show.
Mrs. Nazzaro has been directing children's musicals for more than 20 years. She has worked in Philadelphia, West Virginia, internationally in Europe, and here in Calvert County. She has experience directing elementary school students, middle school students, and high school students in musical theater. Locally, she has produced and musically directed shows at Mt. Harmony Elementary, including Oklahoma, Beauty and The Beast, Willy Wonka, The Little Mermaid, The Jungle Book, and Peter Pan Jr. She has worked with Northern Middle school as their Choreographer in shows, including Alice in Wonderland, High School Musical, Suessical, Hair Spray, and Shrek Jr. The Musical, The Lion King Jr., and Mary Poppins. She is a professional vocalist and has been in a few shows of her own throughout her career. She has even sung backup for Barry Manilow and performed with Doc Scantlin and his Palms Springs Orchestra throughout the D.C. Area.
